Director: Alok Nembang
Nepali Movie: Ajhai Pani is sadly the last movie of one of the most decorated director of Nepal. Before this, Late Alok Nembang’s Sano Sansar and Kohi Mero were both exceptionally good and this time it’s no surprise. He was once quoted in an interview as “I am inspired by many things and incorporate them on my work but I don’t copy”. Freshness is what I love in his works.
Ajhai Pani is a cute movie about dramatic romance between Yunisha and Kushal. The movie casts Sudarshan Thapa in lead role as cute and handsome Kushal, Puza Sharma as Yunisha and Surakshya Pant as Shila. It also features Mithila Sharma and Ramsharan Pathak as grandparents of Kushal and Bijay Lama as Yunisha’s Mama.
Love is really so unpredictable. You never know how and when it enslaves you. They say love is a crazy drug, which can either do some magnificent heavenly things or some nasty horrible crud. Yes, love is blind, but I guess that’s what real love is, you’re blind to the things you don’t like about that person, or you’re blind to their faults or the way they hurt you. Ajhai Pani has a similar story of a blind love or should I say blind lover?
After ‘Sano Sansar’ and ‘Khoi Mero’, this is another masterpiece of Late Alok Nembang. It has a good story with excellent presentation, screenplay and cinematography. Background score was equally bright. A good balance between humor and emotions is what makes this movie better. There were few unbalanced performance of Puza Sharma, but overall it was excelled performance from all the artists. Sudarshan Thapa gave is best and it never looked like he was on his debut. I am also happy about Mithila Sharma’s terrific performance as grandma. Surakshya Pant was equally good in her role and did her job best. Very few Nepali movies can get into the heart of audience and I think this movie has succeeded to do so.
There is one thing that I didn’t like in this movie. When Yunisha’s mama and his friends scuffle with Kushal, the fight scene was looking too fake and impossible. Young boy with ‘kukhure jyan’ winning over lots of huge muscled men looked too exaggerated.
Plot:
After the death of his parents, Kushal grew up with his grandparents. Kushal is cute, handsome, with ‘kukhure jyan’ or lean body and every girls of his village were after him and they would do anything to marry him. But as his grandfather taught him, Kushal regarded every girls in the village as his sisters. Yunisha is a girl from different village. She is a nephew of Rana Bahadur and works in a ‘Sahakari Sanstha’ of same village. As Kushal sees Yunisha, he falls in love with her. Kushal and Yunisha’s love affair was getting deep while Kushal’s grandparents invited Shaili from another village to meet Kushal and fix their marriage. Shaili stays at Kushal’s home and becomes a close friend of Kushal. Two girls in the village are crazy of Kushal and tries to break the relation of Kushal and Yunisha. For that they create misunderstanding between Kushal and Yunisha which lead to conflict between them. Yunisha ignores him and reject his marriage proposal whereas Shaili is waiting to marry Kushal as she also falls in love with him.
Watch or Not?
It’s a beautiful Nepali movie to watch and if you love to watch romantic movie, this is another must watch movie for you.
