All those bad things will make us learn new things and good things will stay in our hearts forever. Lots of Nepali movies were released in 2014. Sadly, most of them were not good. But we still had seen a couple of good movies that made us smile, laugh, thrilled and even cry. Let’s learn from the mistakes of yesterday and move forward to the year 2015. We hope that 2015 brings us a lot of super-hit Nepali movies and the movies with much more creativity and perfection.

Here we have listed the top 10 best and must watch Nepali movies of 2014.

10. Utsav

Utsav Nepali Movie, featuring Gaurab Pahari, Saugat malla, menuka pradhan

The movie, Utsav was a very vibrant story about college life and highlighted the power of friendship among youngster during and after college life. All cast gave an excellent performance. Saugat Malla and Gaurav Pahari carried the movie;  Menuka Pradhan, Sanjog Koirala and Prakriti Shrestha were perfect.

9. Sorry La

Sorry La, Nepali movie review, featuring Subash Thapa and Rajan Khatiwada

Directed by Rishi Lamichhane, ‘Sorry la’ was one of the Nepali movie that surprised us and exceeded our expectations. The movie presents the story about two best friends Anek and Sakaar, with opposite personalities. Anek was free, open minded and charming personality who wants to play with girls and enjoy, while Sakaar was very shy, introvert, lonely personality with a scar on his face, which makes him more depressed. The movie had surprising script, and it’s a different feeling after watching the movie.

8. Love you Baba

Love you Baba, Nepali movie

Eight year old boy has directed an excellent movie and it’s a great achievement for him. Truly, I was not expecting the movie of such level from a child who cannot even talk properly. ‘Love you Baba’ is an emotional story about the relationship between a father, Sushant and her daughter, Chanchal. This Nepali movie has a balance between humour and emotions. It was heartwarming story of the attachment and affection between father and daughter. We loved Chanchal’s attitude and her performance was excellent from start.

  7. Jerryy

Jerry Nepali movie, featuring Anmol KC and Anna Sharma

After ‘Hostel’, the heartthrob of teenagers, Anmol KC is back with another classy movie and this time as a charming playboy with the same director of his previous movie, Hemraj BC. In a lead role, he seems to have gained more confidence and looks like more can be expected from his new projects in the coming days. Jerryy is the story about a cool, handsome and rich guy, Jaiveer Rana or Jerry  and his trip to mustang, where he falls in love with Aakansha(played by Anna Sharma).

The movie had very beautiful music and most of the songs seem to be apt for the film’s situations and helped in moving the story forward. The film’s editing was crisp, and so was a screenplay. This movie looked extravagant and visually stunning with beautiful scenery of Pokhara and Mustang.

6. Kohinoor

Kohinoor Nepali movie

Kohinoor was the last movie of Shree Krishna Shrestha and the highest grossed Nepali movie all time. So, how can we forget this movie? The movie was about a girl named Kohinoor, who was sold in India, and a guy, Babu who helps Kohinoor run away from there to Nepal. The movie presents the dark side of our society with beauty.

5. Nai Nabhannu la 2

Nai Nabhannu la 2 movie review, featuring Priyanka Karki, Suraj Singh Thakuri, Jivan Luitel

Nai Na bhannu La 2’ is a beautiful movie, with beautiful story, related to unpredictable life, full of emotions, affection, love and dreams, a cute romance between a boy and a girl of grade three, presented with perfection, and the heart touching, melodious songs is still unforgettable. This is a movie that’s going to make you laugh, cry and steal your heart. Priyanka Karki was sensational as a mother.

4. Mokshya

Mokshya, Nepali movie – Movie Review

Director Prabin Shrestha has done a terrific job in showing the life of a guy in a rock band in Nepal. The music was extraordinary and performance by artists were perfect. Mokshya was a marvellous and a must watch movie of 2014. The movie was made on a story of four youths who wants to build a career in music. The director later declared that about 70% of the story matche with his own life.

3. Talakjung Vs Tulke

Talakjung Vs Tulke Movie review featuring Dayahang Rai, Khagendra Lamichhane, Richa Sharma

Talakjung Vs Tulke is another masterpiece by Nischal Basnet. I was really impressed by how he took care of every small detail in the movie. It was a remarkable journey from start to finish, a new taste. I have known Nishal Basnet for breaking trends in the movie industry, and yet again he has done so with another flawless Nepali movie. Besides the story, Khagendra Lamichhane was astounding from start till end. He carried out each dialogues and performance very well and deserves credit for how beautiful the movie has become.

2. Jhola

Jhola Nepali Movie review, featuring Garima Panta

Jhola becomes successful in portraying the story of the most evil custom of Nepal, ‘Sati Pratha’ in a pleasing way. When new age Nepali cinema is characterized by glitzy packaging and fancy camera tricks, this sorrowful tale showing the cruel and inhuman practice of Sati in Nepal has broken many hearts and filled many eyes with tears.  Based on the well known writer Krishna Dharabasi’s novel, the movie also depicts the relationship between a mother and son delightfully. Garima Panta was sensational as a wife and a mother in this movie.

1.  Kabbadi

Kabbadi Nepal Movie, featuring Dayahang Rai, Nischal Basnet

Kabbadi was the most entertaining, most creative and most well directed movie of 2014. With Dayahang Rai at his best, this movie was by far the best movie of 2014. The movie presents a true image of Mustang in terms of social and geographical beauty with the touch of wittiness and sentiment. All the characters in the movie were excellent and everything looked very natural.

Jerryy Movie Review /jerryy-movie-review/ Fri, 14 Nov 2014 15:57:16 +0000 /?p=356

Cast: Anmol KC, Anna Sharma, Amalia Sharma, Abhishek Man Sherchan, Yash SJB Rana.
Director: Hem Raj BC

After ‘Hostel’, the heart-throb of teenagers, Anmol KC is back after 1 year with another classy movie and this time as a charming playboy with same director of his previous movie, Hemraj BC. In a lead role, he seems to have gained more confidence and looks like more can be expected from his new projects in coming days. Clearly, he has followed the footstep of his father and already showed the signs of becoming a superstar as most of theaters are housefull in first day which is rare in Nepali movies.

Jerryy is the story about a cool, handsome and rich guy, Jaiveer Rana or Jerry (Anmol KC), who believes “love is like a Chinese mobile with no guarantee” and his trip to mustang where he truly falls in love with a beautiful girl, Aakansha (Anna Sharma) and everything after is romance and heartbreaks.

Positive things are that it has very beautiful music and most of the songs seem to be apt for the film’s situations and helps in moving the story forward. The film’s background music is also good. The film’s editing is crisp, and so was screenplay. They have made this film look extravagant and visually stunning, with beautiful scenery of Pokhara and Mustang. It felt really good to witness the beauty of my own country so closely. More than that, it was quite a lot of bright, pleasurable and interesting jokes that makes you want to laugh out loud. With superhit movie ‘Hostel’ behind him, director Hemraj BC seems to know audience’s taste.

Besides the positives, there are few things that were not working well. I couldn’t get along with the acting of Jerryy’s mom. Her expressions and dialogues we not done so well. Also, the actress seemed less confident while delivering dialogues. And most of all, scripts were predictable at times, could have been better.

Plot:

Jerryy is the story about a guy Jaiveer Rana (Anmol KC), who is known as Jerryy. Jerryy is your typical rich kid. He is Casanova, attends clubs and likes to live his life at the fullest. When it comes to Love he has his own definition about love, he believes love is like a Chinese mobile with no guarantee but his is entire believe gets changed when he meets amazingly adorable Aakansha (Anna Sharma) on a trip to mustang. How these two characters affect, change, befriend and eventually fall in love with each other in this journey, the film aspires to take us on.

 Watch or Not?

Another must watch Nepali movie after “Talakjung Vs Tulke“.
