Cast: Robin Tamang, Siddhartha Gurung, Karishma Manandhar, Wilson Bikram Rai, Mala Subba, Prakash Ojha
Directed By: Suraj Subba “Nalbo”

Nepali cinema: ‘One way’ is about gangster life, disco bar, gang fights and drug addiction. The movie also depicts the role of parents in children’s life. Raj Kumar Rai’s “ONE WAY” features Robin Tamang as biggest DON of Nepal. Before this, Robin was also featured in Mukhata and Chhadke. Although he is not considered the best actor, he has a huge fan base for what he has achieved in Rock music. The picture also features Siddhartha Gurung, the son of popular don Deepak Manangne. Another popular artist playing a part in the movie are Wilson Bikram Rai (Takme Buda), Prakash Ojha and Karishma Manandhar.

“The number of divorces has doubled in the last five years to 1,824 in 2013, most of them filed by women. One in ten family-related cases filed in the courts are divorces, and have overtaken cases relating to land, money lending, and inheritance.”

This shows that people are embracing divorce as an option if they cannot get along. For kids, divorce can be too stressful. They may feel indecisive or irritated at the prospect of mom and dad splitting up. As a parent, you can make the process and its effects less painful for your children. Helping your kids cope with divorce means providing stability in your home and attending to your children’s needs with a reassuring, positive attitude. It won’t be a seamless process, but these tips can help your children cope. Sometimes it’s difficult to get along and divorce might be the only option left, but at least we can successfully navigate this unsettling time and help our kids emerge from it feeling loved, confident, and strong. The film, One Way somehow manages to illustrate how easily a teen child can destroy his life when he doesn’t get enough support from his parents or when his parents are divorced.

I loved the story and the concept of the movie. It looked modern and fresh. The screenplay, however was not good. Although the first half of the movie looked waste of time, but it recovered in the second half. There are few things in the script that I could not take. When Sid was brought in front of Charlie, it was not well presented how Charlie accepted Sid as his friend. In the end, a teenage guy killing all men of a big gangster alone was a bit difficult to take. As he was on his way to kill Charlie, only one man was there at a time to fight with him or stop him. Does that mean all the men of a gangster like to stay alone? I don’t think he would be so lucky to get one man at a time, when he is going to kill the biggest don.

Suraj Subba couldn’t get best out of his stars. I am a great fan of RobinTamang, and loved his role as don, but his performance looked exaggerated on few occasions. There were signs of immaturity in Siddhartha Gurung as well. Takme Buda couldn’t impress too, and he seems to cry a lot. Karishma’s performance as a mother was, however impressive and she looked beautiful as ever.

Plot:
Nepali movie ‘One Way’ is about a teenage guy, Sid (Siddhartha Gurung), whose parents are divorced 15 years ago, and he is living with his mother (Karishma Manandhar). In a disco, he gets involved in a fight where he bits a younger brother of Khurpe. Khurpe is a friend of big don, Charlie (Robin Tamang). Sid is taken in front of Charlie, but instead of punishing him, Charlie forgives and takes him in, seeing his own reflection in Sid. As Charlie notices Sid’s mom, he falls in love with her and wants to get her. As Charlie’s proposal for marries is rejected, he rapes her. Watch the movie to know what happens next.

‘My Promise’ movie review /my-promise-nepali-movie-review/ Fri, 02 Jan 2015 15:18:46 +0000 /?p=544

Cast: Keki Adhikari, Wilson Bikram Rai, Ramesh Chandra Rai, Nar Kumar Limbu, Anurag Kunwar, Daya Rai, Shova Subba, Martin Khan, Anjana rai
Director : Suraj Subba Nalbo

‘My Promise’ is about the difficulties faced by two army officers, Dibya and Naresh while trying to protect a girl, Shital in Singapore. The film casts Keki Adhikari in lead role and Wilson Bikram Rai (Takme Buda) in negative role.

Kantipur Publications posted that “a total of 2.1 million Nepalese are working abroad, including in India, according to the survey carried out by the World Bank in 2009”. The outmigration is causing domestic labor supply shortages in many rural areas. Many times, we have heard Nepalese migrants becoming the victims of frauds. ‘My Promise’ is a similar story of a girl, who is given a false promise of providing a job but later betrayed. This movie gives a good lesson to all the people who seek a better life abroad, and jumps without taking necessary investigations.

First movie of the year 2015, and it was bad, really very bad. ‘My Promise’ lacks enthusiasm from lead roles. I am shocked about Keki Adhikari for this movie. Just few months ago, she received the best actress awards and now she looks worse with poor artists around her. I am really worried about our superstars not being able to choose appropriate script and team for their career growth. Ramesh Chandra Rai and Nar Kumar Limbu were below par and lacked any passion. Their dance moves were even worse. Nonetheless, I loved Wilson Bikram Rai in negative role. He is a pure talent, and knows how to grab the audience.

The movie had plenty of action, but was never so exciting. I believe fight scenes in movie are supposed to bring thrills or excitement. There were no such thrills; instead I was just banging my head with displeasure as most of the time, it was not looking natural. On one occasion, when Naresh (One of army) pierced the hand of Takme buda with a pen, he just felt pain when he was hit. Is someone unaware of how painful it will be when your hand is drilled open with a pen? Beside all these, script was below par, which for me is the backbone of a movie.

Plot:
In a dream of better life, Shital migrates to Singapore for work. She is forced to have sex with a agent, Yogi to get a job. So, she runs away from there to protect her dignity. Dibya and Naresh are two army officials, who find Shital in helpless situation and promise to help her. Together they get Yogi beaten. Yogi takes vow to take revenge and make life difficult for those army officials.

Watch or not?
The movie is below par. Not worth watching.
