‘My Promise’ movie review
Cast: Keki Adhikari, Wilson Bikram Rai, Ramesh Chandra Rai, Nar Kumar Limbu, Anurag Kunwar, Daya Rai, Shova Subba, Martin Khan, Anjana rai
Director : Suraj Subba Nalbo
‘My Promise’ is about the difficulties faced by two army officers, Dibya and Naresh while trying to protect a girl, Shital in Singapore. The film casts Keki Adhikari in lead role and Wilson Bikram Rai (Takme Buda) in negative role.
Kantipur Publications posted that “a total of 2.1 million Nepalese are working abroad, including in India, according to the survey carried out by the World Bank in 2009”. The outmigration is causing domestic labor supply shortages in many rural areas. Many times, we have heard Nepalese migrants becoming the victims of frauds. ‘My Promise’ is a similar story of a girl, who is given a false promise of providing a job but later betrayed. This movie gives a good lesson to all the people who seek a better life abroad, and jumps without taking necessary investigations.
First movie of the year 2015, and it was bad, really very bad. ‘My Promise’ lacks enthusiasm from lead roles. I am shocked about Keki Adhikari for this movie. Just few months ago, she received the best actress awards and now she looks worse with poor artists around her. I am really worried about our superstars not being able to choose appropriate script and team for their career growth. Ramesh Chandra Rai and Nar Kumar Limbu were below par and lacked any passion. Their dance moves were even worse. Nonetheless, I loved Wilson Bikram Rai in negative role. He is a pure talent, and knows how to grab the audience.
The movie had plenty of action, but was never so exciting. I believe fight scenes in movie are supposed to bring thrills or excitement. There were no such thrills; instead I was just banging my head with displeasure as most of the time, it was not looking natural. On one occasion, when Naresh (One of army) pierced the hand of Takme buda with a pen, he just felt pain when he was hit. Is someone unaware of how painful it will be when your hand is drilled open with a pen? Beside all these, script was below par, which for me is the backbone of a movie.
Plot:
In a dream of better life, Shital migrates to Singapore for work. She is forced to have sex with a agent, Yogi to get a job. So, she runs away from there to protect her dignity. Dibya and Naresh are two army officials, who find Shital in helpless situation and promise to help her. Together they get Yogi beaten. Yogi takes vow to take revenge and make life difficult for those army officials.
Watch or not?
The movie is below par. Not worth watching.
